Webinar Outlines How States Can Maintain and Operationalize Oversight of their Insurance Markets

The
State Health Reform Assistance Network hosted a webinar to help states as they grapple with their new insurance market regulatory responsibilities under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  The ACA requires states to undertake multiple reforms of their insurance markets, including implementation of community rating, guarantee issue, and meaningful rate review. States must obtain legal authority to enforce the new market rules and develop the regulatory infrastructure to monitor compliance. The webinar, “Operationalizing Oversight of ACA Insurance Market Reforms,” reviewed the responsibilities of states under the ACA, made practical recommendations on how regulators can gain needed authority for enforcement, and outlined the process for federal enforcement if states are unable to meet their legal responsibilities under the ACA.
