Economic Impact of Health Reform: Maryland Analysis

The Hilltop Institute at the University of Maryland Baltimore County recently released a report examining the economic impact of the ACA for Maryland. Using a dynamic simulation model, the Institute’s analysis indicated that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will:

  • Generate $3.3 billion in additional economic activity each year in Maryland;
  • Generate $237 million in additional state and local tax revenue each year;
  • Bring health coverage to 333,000 more Marylanders by 2020;
  • Save $672 million in Maryland’s budget through 2020; and
  • Lead to the employment of more than 26,000 Marylanders.
