SCI Policy Planning Grant
In 2002 the Georgia Department of Community Health was awarded a SCI Policy Planning Grant. This grant was used to develop a logic model of policy options in partnership with the Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) at Georgia State University. The activities built off of the state's HRSA State Planning Grant data collection activities and use additional data to reinforce the estimates calculated for the logic model.
One part of the project is to learn whether the dollars used in PeachCare for Kids, the state's Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) program, might provide greater avenues for coverage if modifications to the program were made. The analysis provided policymakers with information about the feasibility and implications of a premium support program, under which PeachCare dollars were used to purchase employment-based coverage for children rather than provide direct care through PeachCare. GHPC has analyzed data to estimate access to coverage among eligible beneficiaries, the required contribution for family coverage, and the take-up rate by coverage category.
