This Congressional Research Service (CRS) report outlines the penalties for employers that do not provide affordable insurance under the ACA. CRS highlights examples of how the ACA would work and concludes that penalties could affect only those employers with at least 30 employees. The report notes that employers will be required to provide written notice to their employees about the health insurance exchange, their potential eligibility for premium credits and cost-sharing subsidies, and the potential loss of an employer contribution if an employee chooses to buy coverage through the health insurance exchange.CRS also writes that employers will have to report certain information to the federal government, such as whether they offer coverage, how much it costs, and information about their employees.
