CMWF-Promising Payment Reform: Risk-Sharing with Accountable Care Organizations
A report from Catalyst for Payment Reform, funded by the Commonwealth Fund, that notes the concept of "shared risk" for payers in ACO-like experiments is a relatively untested concept. The shared risk/shared savings concept is part of the proposed rule on ACOs, but the study found that current shared savings models may not be quite ready. Due to lack of infrastructure to successfully manage risk, experiminetation and flexibility will be key to find a model that fits each state's needs.
