West Virginia's governor has enacted a temporary provider tax of 0.88 percent on 28 acute care hospitals in order to generate more federal Medicaid dollars. The enabling legislation, H.B. 492, was signed by the state's acting governor, Earl Ray Tomblin, on April 5, 2011. The legislation is expected to generate $28 million per year in new Medicaid revenue and $80 million in additional federal funds to the state.
