RAND-The Impact of the Coverage-Related Provisions of the ACA on Insurance Coverage and State Health Care Expenditures in Texas

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) will allow more individuals to recieve health insurance coverage. The coverage-expansion provisions in the ACA will impose costs to the states, but exact costs are still unknown. This brief describes RAND's preliminary analysis of the impact of the ACA on Texas. RAND's predictive model found that in Texas in 2016, the unisured rate will fall to 6 percent compared to 28 percent without the ACA. The report also suggests that Texas' health care spending will increase 10 percent during 2011-2020 period due to the health care law.
