This report details the 8 states' experiences convening stakeholders, helping primary care practices improve performance, and addressing antitrust concerns that arise when multiple payers come together to create a medical home program.

On behalf of Governor McDonnell, the Virginia Health Care Reform Advisory Committee has written a report to the legislature on key decisions the state needs to make on health care reform.

This brief reports that the state needs to do a better job of monitoring payments in its Medicaid program to avoid fraud, waste, abuse, and inefficiencies.

The Virginia legislature passed legislation that states an “intent to establish” an exchange. It charges the governor with bringing recommendations, in consultation with stakeholders and the public, to the legislature for the 2012 legislative session.

On August 20-21, 2010, the Advisory Council began the process of establishing task forces in six key areas: Medicaid Reform, Insurance Market Reform, Delivery and Payment Reform, Capacity, Technology, and Purchasers Perspective.

In August of 2010, Governor Robert F. McDonnell appointed 24 political, health system, civic and business leaders to the Virginia Health Reform Initiative (VHRI) Advisory Council.
